GCCIS Luncheon
Today, Tona Henderson and I are doing a presentation on our research at our college’s monthly women’s luncheon. We’ll be talking about the impetus for our research, and the methodology we’re using in our grant.
For those who couldn’t attend (or who attend and want to review the material we presented), here are the slides we used.
The presentation is based on one I gave at the University of Buffalo, a few months before we submitted our grant proposal—we’ve updated it with new statistics, and with specifics about our research project.
NSF Principal Investigators' Workshop
The two PI’s on our grant, Liz Lawley and Tona Henderson, will be attending a workshop this weekend for all PI’s involved in NSF’s IT Workforce Program.
Because our grant has just started, we’ll only be there to listen and learn. We’ll have a chance to hear from some amazing people, though, including Jane Margolis (one of the architects of CMU’s incredibly successful effort to increase the number of women in their Cs program, and author of Unlocking the Clubhouse), and Joanne Cohoon, whose work on gendered attrition in CS informed a great deal of our proposal.
When we get back, we’ll report on what we learned.
CITC 4 Conference
On Thursday, October 16th, Tona Henderson will be presenting a paper at the Conference on Information Technology Curriculum 4. The paper outlines our research plan, and discusses our preliminary results.
Because CITC is sponsored by the ACM SIG on Information Technology Education, the paper will be published in the ACM Digital Library. A copy of it is available in the Resources section of this site, as well.
